Part Two

Kitty kept her foot on the gas. She had just left the X-Men. An outlaw band of mutants she had dedicated 5 years of her life to. All because she couldn't keep her feelings inside. She had to let them get out and ruin a friendship. Kitty's impulsiveness was beginning to die down and she was starting to realize the enormity of what she had just done.

"This wouldn't be so bad," she thought, "If I had any idea where I was going."

Kitty drove on, not sure of where she would be.

Piotr drove as fast as the Blazer would go. He had to catch up to Kitty. He had to tell her not to leave the X-Men, not to leave him. This would easier if he had any idea where she was headed. He kept scanning the road before him to see if he could see the car she had taken. So far, no luck.

"Please Katya,"he wished,"Please let me find you."

Kitty had parked the car on some little side street and had been wandering the streets of New York for about an hour now. Not exactly world's smartest thing to do at 1 in the morning. Not that it mattered, she was.. no, had been an X-Man. All those countless hours training in the Danger Room and her mutant power to render herself intangible could keep her safe. A cold wind blew across the desolate street and Kitty pulled up her jacket around her. She looked around, and saw no one. Which was good because that was how she felt. Alone. Her parents weren't there. Her best friend had died of the legacy virus. She had left Ororo and the other X-Men behind and Piotr....well Piotr didn't like her in the same way she liked him.

Kitty hadn't had any self-degrading thoughts since she had been 15. But now she began to pick on herself. Making her faults worse than they really were. To try and explain to herself why Piotr wouldn't want someone like her and how she couldn't really blame him. Her eyes threatened to tear up again, but she wouldn't let them. She was tired of crying. As time wore on, Kitty began to get more control over herself.

"Okay, let's look back at things," she thought silently," I told Piotr I loved him. He didn't say anything which obviously meant the feeling wasn't mutual. I was upset, so I left the X-Men. And have been wandering New York for awhile now. With no where to go. I think it would be safe to say you over reacted, Pryde."

She thought of Piotr. Tried to think of him as only a friend. She couldn't. She had been lying to him and herself for too long.

"I could have not told him. I could have gotten on. Friends would be enough. It would be something," she sighed."I have no where to go. Great, Pryde. Because of your stupid feelings I'm really alone."

Kitty was so caught up in he thinking she didn't see the gangs on thugs come out of the alley. In fact, she didn't even notice them until she bumped into one of them.

"Well, look what we have here, boys. A pretty little girl. What's a little girl like you out on a dark night like this, huh?" said a badly dressed, ugly faced punk, whose breathe reeked of alcohol.

"Get out of my way,"Kitty exasperately said. She wasn't in a mood to hurt anyone.

"OOOOH. Big girl, I see. Just being polite, sweetheart. Can't a guy have a new friend?"

Kitty ignored him as she walked past him. She realized she had made a mistake. Now she was in the circle of the gang, and they were closing in on her.

"Boy did you pick the wrong lady," she said to no one in particular. Kitty Pryde had been trained by Wolverine. She knew more forms of martial arts than any girl she ever knew. She was an expert at them, too. And, though she wasn't a fighter at heart, she knew she could take these losers. She also knew she had to do it without her powers. With all the anti-mutant campaigns around she knew it would be best if she kept her powers unknown in public. Besides, it would be much more therapuetic not using them.

She calmly walked up to one of the punks and slammed the base of her palm into his face. He stumbled back, obviously not expecting her to fight back.

Assorted cries of shock came from all around. Rough, callused hands grabbed her from behind. Using all her strength she rammed her elbow into his gut. She felt him fall to ground. Two of the gang came to attack her from the front. She kicked one in the face, he sprawled to the ground, knocked out. The other she used her hands to catch him by the throat as she hit his head hard on a brick wall. He slid, unconscious, to the cold sidewalk. She turned around to see what was left of the gang standing there in pure shock.

Feigning a smile, Kitty asked,"Anymore takers?"

She wasn't surprised to see them running in the opposite direction. Kitty sighed, pulled up her jacket around her, and walked back towards the car.

Piotr had been driving around all of New York all night with no luck. He hadn't found Kitty. It was driving him crazy. He was so worried, caught up in his feelings of love and protectiveness for her that he didn't notice the car coming from the side. He swerved in the nick of time, keeping his eyes more focused. He wanted to tell her so bad, it was aching to get out of him. He had wanted it to be perfect. But if he had to find her in New York and tell her to stop her from leaving, he would.

Piotr sighed. He had checked everywhere. Coffee shops, La Guardia airport, parts of Central Park, to no avail. No signs of Katya.

He felt so useless, but as long as there was hope in him he wouldn't quit until he found her. He scanned the streets, got down at a few places to look around. Suddenly, it hit him. He wasn't certain, but it was his only shot at finding her. He ran to the car, jumped in and drove to where, he hoped, he would find Kitty.
