Chapter One

Sonja Black slowly awoke, Staring at the ceiling. After a few minutes though, she gracefully draged herself out of bed and proceded to get dressed into her uniform. All the while cursing Scout Summers, for scheduling a danger room session so early in the morning.

"Not everyone is up at the crack of dawn " She muttered to herself.

She had been with the X-Men for a year now, Cyclops had ofered her a spot on the Team, When she had unexpectedly met the X-Men in New York. When a situation had broken out with the " friends of humanity. " She had been coming out of her apartment building, and had stopped at the glass doors to find a large angry mob gathered out in front. Screaming that the mutants inside come out or they were coming in. Wondering if she should get involved or not, three men came up to her, expecting to escort her outside where it was safe. Aparently they didn't know she was a mutant. But Sonja had gotten the wrong impression, and without warning lashed out at the men. Her fist making full contact with one guys jaw, and her foot striking another guy in the side of the head. Then spun around and knocked the last man senless.

The stunned crowd finally coming to thier scenses started firing thier weapons. Sonja took to the sky hovering above them protected within her bubble shaped energy shield. Which is literlaly unbreakable. Although not able to fire at them within the sheild, She was able to survey the situation for the first time. She was fully capable of whipping them out, without any effort at all.

She couldn't though, for she new full well that an attack like that would only do these people more good then bad. But stunning or hurting them just a bit, didn't sound bad at all. She swooped down at them unprotected and dodging the bullets. Her powers coming forth out of her hands, at a controlled intensity to only stun the pathitic fools below her. The X-Men getting there only at this time, sprang forth from their plane to only stand and look around in bewilderment.

She came down and stood, standing in the middle of the road. She new all about the X-Men, and other X-Teams. That was the reason she was in New York. Sonja had been planing to go to the Xavier Institute. She had no idea what she would say when she got there but things had turned out for her that day. And that's basically how she ended up on the Team.

In the danger room Cyclops was briefing the assembled X-Men, Gambit,(Remy LeBeau) Tigress,(Sonja Black) Cannonball,(Sam Guither) Rogue, Bishop and Pheonix,(Jean Grey). About what this session was about. The senario was going to be a war game, in which the six X-Men were to be split up into two teams. Team one, Gambit, Tigress and Cannonball against Team two, Rogue, Bishop and Phoenix.

Ihe game was that of a different type of tag so to speak. Each person participating in the exercise carried a pinny attatched to thier uniforms around thier waists. Which the opposing oponents had to somehow steel away, which inturn would mean that, that person was out of the game.

" Sound easy 'nough t'me homme " Gambit said with a lazy grin.

He wasn't to pleased with getting up this early either. He himself would sleep until noon if given the chance. Though he wouldn't give Cyclops the satisfaction of knowing it. He didn't like Scott, for he was too self rightious, among other things. " t'ough I can' say dat dis ain' goin' be fun" He thought to himself. He loved a challenge, and arose to the occasion with all that he had.

" I'll be in the control room, monitering the session." Cyclops said with a clear comanding voice. Cyclops strode out of the room, the hydrolic hiss of the adamantium enforced doors closing behind him. The room starting to shimmer as the the back ground came into place. The back ground was that of the streets of New York city, at night. In which holographic citizens walked.

The two teams imediatly despersed, going in different directions. Team one had gone in the right, Team two to the left. Team one stood in an alley behind a night club, coming up with a plan. It was decided that Tigress would check Pheonix, Cannonball, Rogue and Gambit would take Bishop. With that, they spread out looking for their targets, keeping in touch with each other through thier com links.

Gambit came upon Bishop first, after hearing, then following the big mans foot steps. But Bishop was trained to well to be snuck upon. In fact he had spied the Cajun and had deliberetly made just enough noise for him to follow. Gambit was anything but dumb, and wouldn't step into a trap that easily. Though it was almost pitch black where there weren't light posts, Gambit's night sight helped him greatly. In that sense, he had an advantage. Through his spacial awarness, Gambit knew exactly were Bishop was planning his ambush.

Cannonball was looking towards the skies, trying to at least spot Rogue. He knew that if he were to fly, he would surely be seen. Though indistructable when in flight, he was no match for Rogue's brute strength. The only way he was going to get Rogues pinny, was if he cought her by surprise. And he wasn't going to do that, if she saw him coming.

Rogue flew over head without a sound, looking for her target as well. Unsurprisingly Team Two, had the same targets. It was just common sense to put together the people who were fairly matched, or at least had a chance together.

Rogue still hadn't even glimsed Cannonball.

" Have ta give that boy credit for bein' slick, But slick o'not he ain' gettin' away from me" Rogue mumbled to herself.

Mean while Sam had finally spotted Rogue, she was flying in a pattern which covered alot of ground. He was now running up flights of stairs, of a fairly tall building. That would eventually bring him to the roof, Rogue seemed to always fly over. Hidden in the shadows he waited.

Phoenix was scaning for Tigress with little success. Tigress had strong phsyic sheilds, that blocked all scans. She'd sensed her nearby when she neared this area though. So Phoenix waited on top of an old run down store, which was only a block away from park.

Tigress walked through Central Park, from where she stood she could see the store which she'd seen Pheonix land upon. She'd let her shields weaken for a moment hoping Jean would come into this area. This way she'd have lot's of room to manuver. For there was no way she was going to be able to sneak up on her.

Phoenix scanned the area again, though not as strong as the last time , she knew with a certainty that Tigress was in the Park. " Though I wonder what she's planning." she wondered. And with that Pheonix flew to the ground, and carefully walked towards the Park, ready for anything.

Bishop was perched on the buildings front steps, waiting for Gambit to round the corner. In the shadows, he considered himself well hidden.

Gambit slowly retraced his steps, going back around the building, once at the opposite corner, he spyed Bishop crouched and waiting for him. But unfortunatly for Bishop, Bishop was looking in the wrong direction, There for, Gambit thought he'd be easy to sneak up upon. But was mistaken. Gambit was about three feet away from Bishop, when Bishop whirled around to confront him. Knowing that it was useless to use his powers against him, Gambit used physical means.

Before Bishop could throw the first punch, Gambit did a wicked spin kick, making full contact with his jaw. Then before he could recover from the first blow, Gambit surprised him again with a uppercut to the chin. Acting out of instinct, Bishop lashed out with his power, hitting Gambit square in the chest. Knocked to the ground, it gave Bishop a second to regain his senses. But only a second, for Gambit was up again and in full force.

They went at it like this for a while, in quick sucsession. Never getting close enough to each other, to grab their pinnies. Until Gambit charged a garbage can, which exploded, distracting Bishop for a moment. But a moment was all he needed, within a second he had Bishops pinny, in his hand. Bishop looked at Gambit, slightly shocked, while Gambit looked back, wearing a triumphant smile.

" Look like I win, eh?" Gambit remarked sarcastically. Although not showing it, the encounter had left him slighty tired as well.

Rogue flew over the building in which Cannonball was on, unknowingly. Though she was starting to get the feeling, that she was on a wild goose chase. And that Cannonball was waiting for her somewhere. But not knowing where, kept her on full alert.

Cannonball waited until she flew slightly past the building, before he went airborne. Though once he was in the air, he flew full speed, hoping to catch her off gaurd. Being more graceful in the air, saved her.

" Just 'bout got me sugah, but it ain' gonna be that easy next time" she replied. Silently cursing herself for being caught off guard, so easily.

Cannonball whirled around, not really knowing now, how he was going to aquire her pinny. Rogue flew at him, with a confident look on her face. Not knowing what else to do Cannonball flew at her as well. They collided head on. Holding him at arms length, Rogue snatched his pinny. leaving him to look bewidered. She sank slowly to the ground. Cannonball slowly followed suit.

" Ah'm sorry sugah, but a games, a game " Rogue said, feeling slightly guilty, after seeing Cannonballs confused face.

" Don't be, you won fair and square " Cannonball politly replied.

Tigress gracefully moved between the trees, silently stalking her target. But always staying a ways away.

Phoenix slowly walked until she got to the clearing in the middle of the park. She stopped, trying to see through the darkness. Just then a flash of red black hit her squarly in the back, sending her flying forwards. Pheonix rolled then got back to her feet, recovering her breath.

Tigress strode forth from the blackness. At that moment a bubble the color of black and red entertwined, enveloped them.

Tigress held a threatening and confident posture. While you where in this bubble, you where in Tigress's turf. She controlled all in here. She could kill you, disarm you, stunn you and much more. Phoenix had instantaniuosly constructed a telekenetic bubble, to protect herself. And was in the prossess of telekinetically trying to get Tigress's pinny, but with no luck. Just then the interior of Tigress's energy bubble, glimered an erie red, but for only a split second.

Phoenix colapsed unconsious. Tigress camly walked over to the motionless body, and collected her prize.

Team One had won the game.

Down in the kitchen, most of the X-Men we're having a belated breakfast. The one's that weren't, had gotten tired of waiting and had simply made themselfs something to eat. After words, when the dishes and table were being cleaned, Gambit went out to get the mail. As he picked up the stack he went through it, looking for his own. But stopped as he came across a disturbingly familar return address. But it was not addressed to him, but to Sonja. He suffled it to the bottom, planning to ask Sonja about it later, without the other X-Men around.

About an hour later, Remy aproached Sonja.

" Eh Sonja y'know wha' Fatality stands fo'?

He asked quizically. He had decided to come right out and ask her. Instead of beating around the bush.

" What, ya want the dictionary term? " she asked, a little on edge.

" I t'ink you know wha' I mean. " He replied, getting mad.

" I dont know what your talkin' about! " she said it just above a whisper, but loud enough for him to hear.

" What dis den? " He quitly asked, pulling out the envolpe.

She took the letter from his hand, and silently read the return address. It wasn't of course the real address, but mearly a decoy. But a decoy used everytime, as a warning to people. ( usually people, the organization knew. )

" Why dis sent to you? "

" How do you know about them, and what this means?" she asked, now walking towards her room.

She was now both nervous and interested. Nervous in how the letter had found her, and interested in how Remy knew about it. Sonja knew that Remy had a dark past, but never really cared about it. She herself had one as well, and didn't care for people who pryed her for answers either. If she gave any at all they were breif and didn't reveal alot of information.

As she came to the door to her room, she motioned that he follow her, he did. Once inside she turned on her CD player, and turned the volume to a comfortable level. Then turned to Remy, as she sat down on her bed, and opened the envolope.

Remy merly stood there facing her, watching as she read the contents of the letter. His tall lean body was tense as he stood waiting. He was none to happy when he had reconized the address. It was a part of his past that he'd rather forget, although it wasn't as bad as some of the things he'd done.

Sonja put the letter down, and flatly stated that she had to leave. Her face a mixture of unguarded emotions.

" How do you know about this? Be honest. " she asked pleadingly.

Remy went to pick up the letter as she asked him, she made no move to stop him. He simply held it as he answered.

" I be close to dem once, I take it you be too. " it was a statement rather than a question.

They looked at each other, both not needing a verbal answer to know that they were both members at one time. Remy then read the envolope,

tuesday 9
Black, I'm sending you this because I owe you. But not only because of that, I'm tired and want out as well. I'll get right to the point. They found Babs. They brang her in, but mere hours ago. I don't know the whole story, but I do know it ain't looking good for her. As you already know, they was pretty pissed when she was caught steeling info, even madder when she left with it. If you still value her as a friend, you better get her out as fast as you can. But be aware they now looking for the few who've ditched them. With avengence. Security has been upgraded everywhere. Be careful.
Nubica.

As he finished he looked up at Sonja, and replied,

" I be coming. 'sides you won' get far wit' dat kinda security wit' out me " He said in a-matter-of-factly voice.

to be continued.
