Seeking Peace pt 11

You didn't need to be a physic to sense the tension in the room. Kyler debated using an imaginary knife to saw through the air but she didn't think the group would appreciate her humor right now. She looked at the strained faces sitting around the table. They had been discussing the Sinister situation for three hours now and getting nowhere. If anyone was going to have a brilliant revelation, she wished they would have it so they could call it a day. She wondered if they would forgive her for suggesting it when Charles intervened.
"We will not be able to accomplish anything else this evening. Perhaps, some rest will give us a refresh perspective. We will reconvene at eight o'clock tomorrow morning." He backed his hover chair away from the table signaling their dismissal.
Kyler felt rather odd at being dismissed. She was used to being her own boss. How does that saying go again? Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it. She had asked to a partner in this mess and he was treating her like one of the others. A small smile tilted her lips. Was it too much to ask to be a senior partner though? She closed her eyes and leaned back in her chair. She could hear the others file out of the room debating what takeout to order for dinner. Kyler's eyes snapped open when she realized that the chair next to her hadn't moved. She turned her head and found Remy watching her.
"We need t' talk." Not a good sign. Women were the ones who liked to talk not men. She held up a hand to silence him.
"If this is the last night was a mistake speech consider it all ready said." She couldn't keep the touch of bitterness from her tone. She felt so stupid. Of course last night hadn't been special for him. He probably had sex-a- thons all the time. It might have been lust but she thought they had 'connected'. Apparently the only connecting he did was with his.... She needed to get out of there. She stood up and groaned definitely too much sitting today. She could rectify that. A good workout is what she needed to get rid of her frustrations. She started for the door when he grabbed her arm.
"You t'ink it was mistake, neh?" That made her stop and think. Her pride dictated that she agree. But wouldn't that make things easier for him? Did it matter? Telling him it was a mistake would leave her with some dignity.
"No." Where in the blue blazes had that come from? How could she save face now? "I mean... Damn!" It appeared she would be telling the truth. "Look! I know you think I'm easy but the truth of the matter is, well, I don't normally jump in the sack with guys I've known less than a day. And you, well," She swallowed hard. She might as well finish gluing her heart on her sleeve. "There haven't been many men in my life and when I saw you my hormones went zonkers. I am not ashamed that we expressed our attraction." She got out in a quick rush. This was embarrassing. She tried to shake off his grip.
"You finished?" He pulled her closer and wrapped his arms around her. Kyler began to struggle in his embrace. "Hold still." He whispered near her ear.
He wanted her to hold still? She wanted to slap him for that one. How dare he hold her! He could take his pity and stuff where the sun don't shine. She didn't want it. She began to struggle for all she was worth. Remy responded to her exertion by tightening his embrace until she was plastered against his body. She couldn't move now. Her face was buried in his chest. Great now he was trying to suffocate her.
"You done yet?" He couldn't make out her muffled response so he loosened his grip enough so she could look up at him. She chose to look down at his shirt instead. He cupped her chin raising her eyes to meet his. "You have temper, chere."
"So I've been told. Would you please let go of me now?" She really wanted to get out of here. She was going to find the biggest piece of chocolate she could get a hold of then have herself a pity party. Calories didn't count in times of stress.
"You listen now, neh?" She nodded. She wanted him to say his piece so they could get this over with. "I don' t'ink you're easy." Her eyes grew wide when his words registered in her mind. "Gambit made pl'nty mistakes. Las' nigh' was' one."
"Really? I thought that..." her voice trailed off as a blush trailed into her cheeks. She remembers the little saying about assuming things making asses out of people. She wondered if these little lessons in humility were really necessary to build character. If so, her character should have grown in leaps and bounds for this one. Wait! Back it up! He said it wasn't a mistake not that they would be repeating it. "I can't do this."
"Do what?" He looked puzzled.
"I can't stand this beating around the bush. Just yes or no do you want to keep seeing me?" She pressed her hand to his lips before he could answer her. "I want you to know what I expect before you say anything. I don't want promises or any future commitments. We take it one day at a time. It will be easier that way. Just be honest with me, that's all I ask." She paused then added in an after thought. "I also hope you will do me the courtesy of telling me it's over before you find a new playmate."
She removed her hand from his mouth and waited for his reply. He simply stood there looking at her with an amused grin on his face. She could feel her annoyance building. It wasn't a joke to her. She had been serious.
"You gonna let dis Cajun boy answer you, p'tite?" Color flooded her face again. Remy took mercy on her sensing she was not in the mood to be teased. He lowered his head and brushed his mouth against hers. "Oui." His mouth claimed hers again in a slow sensual kiss.
