Seeking Peace pt 22
By Jenna"Oh my!"
The dark headed woman kneeling in front of the toilet hoped that the voice she heard was part of a new type of psychosis brought on by pregnancy hormones. Kyler turned her head toward the spot where the soft feminine exclamation had come from. Great! Just great! Next time she'll have to remember to lock the door. Well, at least her mind wasn't destabilizing.
"Hello, Jean. Need to potty?"
Jean raised a red eyebrow at the flippant greeting. "No, even if I did I am sure you'll understand if I pass on the use of this particular facility."
Kyler smiled at the response. Jean might look like cookies and cream but she certainly had a bite to her. "Don't worry. It's not catching. At least not from me."
She grabbed some paper towels and dampened them before handing them down to Kyler. "I know it isn't catching from you. Scott is the only one who can catch me with a baby."
"Thanks." Kyler took the offering and freshened her face. "How long have you known?"
"Not long. Imagine waking from a sound sleep with the overwhelming urge to be ill."
"I don't have to imagine it. I am living it." Kyler interrupted. She patted the toilet. "Let me introduce you to my new best friend."
Jean gave her a sympathetic look. "Yes, you are living it. Unfortunately or fortunately depending on how you look at it, I experienced it as well."
"I didn't know I was projecting."
"You weren't, really. I have shields that protect me from stray thoughts during the night while I am sleeping. Your distress was strong enough for me to pick up and when I opened my mind to you I was unprepared for the type of distress you were feeling." Jean finished with a rueful grin.
Kyler winced. "I am sorry."
"No, don't be! Do you know that I have never experienced the discomfort of pregnancy?"
"But I..." Kyler's brow furrowed in confusion. "I thought you had children."
"I do but not one of those darlings has come from my body. At least not in this time line." Jean noticed Kyler's startled expression. "It is a long story. Several long stories as a matter of fact. Maybe I'll tell you some time."
"I would like that." Kyler held a hand up and Jean obligated her by helping her to her feet. "Thanks, I'm still a little wobbly."
"Goodness, you only had surgery yesterday on top of dealing with morning sickness. Gee, I wonder."
"Me too."
Kyler leaned on Jean as they walked back to the med-lab. "Why didn't you use the lavatory in the med-lab?"
"Remy fell asleep in there again." Kyler answered simply.
"Why haven't you told him?"
"I'm scared."
Jean had to strain to hear Kyler's whispered words. "I know. Remy won't let you down though. He's a good man."
She looked at the telepath sadly. "He is a good man. But I'm the all or nothing kind. I want his love too."
"You don't think he loves you?"
"I am praying he does but until he tells me..."
"Give him time, Kyler. Men can be dense about matters of the heart."
Kyler grinned. "Please don't get me started on male bashing. I could tell you some stories that will curl your hair."
"We have some time before the strategy session in the War Room. Do tell!"
"Just remember asked for it."
To be continued.
