Seeking Peace pt 34

Remy asked the professor to assemble any available team members for a meeting at their earliest convenience. Not more than an hour later, the professor had gathered Storm, Logan, Scott, Jean and Hank together in his study. Kyler and Remy joined them and began the meeting by passing the photograph around.

"Dis my son." Remy said as he handed the picture to the professor. "Sinister has him."

"How did this photograph come into your possession?" Charles asked studying the picture of a child no more than three months of age.

"Been trollin' fo' info fo' weeks lookin' fo' ways t' even de score. Scum give me picture and message from Sinister. Give me de boy in exchange fo' Cerebro file."

"What do you mean evening the score?" Scott demanded giving Remy a scathing look. "Gambit, we are X-men not vigilantes. You had no right..."

Anger boiled within Remy causing his eyes to glow. Red on black shot forth lava fumes. "Had every right!" He shouted.

Remy struggled to control his temper. Several deep breaths later he had the lid on his volatile emotions but his voice, harsh and gravely told of the strain. "When your woman an' your babe hurt you lecture t' me bout rights. Till den, don' wan' t' hear from you."

Kyler touched Remy's arm and leaned forward to whisper in his ear. "Sinister has hurt him too, Rem."

Remy nodded and placed a chaste kiss on her cheek feeling the calm wash over him. It was amazing how a simple touch from her affected him.

"This discussion will serve no purpose." The professor said quietly placing the photograph on the table. "I suggest we move on." The professor waited until he received an agreement from Remy and Scott before continuing. "Now which file is Sinister after?"

"De Nassis file."

"Nassis? Tawla Nassis?"

"Dat's de one."

"How did Sinister find out about her? She has been hermitting since Operation Zero Tolerance, before that even." Hank asked before reaching for the photo.

"How he heard is no longer important. How he intends to utilize her powers is." The professor stated.

"She refused to join the X-men." Storm pointed out. "Will she help Sinister?"

"I don't think so. Jean offered. "I recall her having a philosophy about honor and justice but that was before her imprisonment. She may have changed."

"Who wouldn't change bein' locked in a cell?" Logan growled. "That ain't our problem. Her helpin' Sinister would be."

The professor moved his head in a negative motion. "I doubt she has changed sufficiently to aid Sinister's cause."

"Sinister doesn't appear to lack corporation methods." Hank reminded the professor.

"Then we shall contact her first and invite her for a visit. That will ensure no unsavory methods." The professor told the group calmly.

"Do you think she will come?" Scott asked.

"She was in the cell next to mine for two days in Virginia. I granted her a favor. She will repay it."

"The mansion seems to filling up these days, doesn't it?" Ororo said. She passed the photo Hank had given her to Jean.

Jean examined the picture of the cherub. "Not to get off the first but topic but do you truly believe this is the child stolen from Kyler's womb."

"Oui." Remy's affirmative was forged from steel. His steely gazed caressed his team mates individually daring them to contradict him.

Logan was the only one who dared grabbing the photo from Jean's hand and looking it over. Red fluff and its features though tiny surrounded the child's tiny head had the same chiseled appeal of Remy. "Sure the kid kinda looks you but Sinister has always played with cloning. How can you be sure this isn't one of his experiments?"

Remy felt Kyler shudder at the word experiment. Reaching under the table he gave her hand a reassuring squeeze only to be rewarded by her dimpling smile.

"Don' matter. If dere's a babe wit Sinister we want him."

"Remy, Kyler, do realize what you may be taking on?" Hank asked them in concern.

"We know, mon ami."

Kyler cleared her throat feeling a little self-conscious at joining the discussion. But she could not remain silent any longer. "Remy and I have discussed this thoroughly. We are claiming that child as our own whether it is cloned of tissue or the actual child. We aren't asking permission. We are asking for help. Will you give it?"

"There is no question of assistance. As your friends we are concerned for you. Kyler, you are just now beginning to accept the lost of your child. Great expectations and hopes that don't materialize could be devastating for your peace of mind."

Kyler held up her hand before Charles could continue to convey his feelings with the elegant words he was fond of. "I appreciate your concern."

She smiled gracefully at the entire group. "All of you. I can't say I am recovered from what happened, time is the only thing that will help that but I will be okay regardless. I have found my peace, here, with Remy. Please don't worry about me."

"So," Logan began after tossing the photo back to Remy. Remy caught the picture and tucked it into his pocket. "You callin' the kid gumbo junior?"
