In this story, two people from Sid's past show up: Songmaster Thax (the mad monk who enacted the ritual which gave Renegade his powers) and Seyla of Arborea (the forest princess who fell in love with him), the former allying with Sinister to make life tougher for the X-Men, and the latter to try to win back his beloved's heart by any means. The X-Men will have to struggle against genetically altered monsters and strange powers to send their enemy back from where he came.
Also, a guest appearance by Stephen "Doc" Strange.
