DISCLAIMER: Marvel owns all these characters (except for Margaret Santoro-- she's all mine.) However, they keep doing unbelievably lame things to them, like awful retcons, pointless plot twists, failing to follow up on what good ideas they do have, and so forth, so I have to write things like this.
IMPORTANT CONTINUITY NOTE!: This story takes place after the Magneto Limited Series (the really lousy one that was actually about Joseph) and before the Shi'ar Adventure. From the point that it splits from continuity, nothing established by Marvel is necessarily taken as canon. This includes the retcon of Erik Lehnsherr's name, Joseph's established origin in the comics, and what the heck Maggott and Marrow are doing with their lives, as well as other things.
In Alara's Own Words
I had this idea over a year ago, but a looming huge retcon that I see coming up in Marvel comics inspired me to actually write this one down and get it out before Marvel takes the idea and totally screws it up. (AUTHOR'S NOTE, SEPT. 2000: Sure enough, they did. And you heard it here first.) This takes place after Onslaught and the Magneto LS, but before the Christmas issue that led to Adventures in Space. I feel free to ignore anything whatsoever Marvel says about the characters from the Christmas issue on. This series is lighter than most of my work-- not to say that it won't deal with some very serious stuff, such as clinical depression, identity crises, soul-searching, bounty hunters, and the morality of moving the blame from the guilty hero to the innocent villain for the sake of the greater good-- but most of my Magneto stories are nothing but angstfests (he's just so easy to angst), and this has some humor, some romance and some genuine happiness in it. In other words, I might actually do some happy endings for once. (Boy, now my rep is shot. :-)) So far there is only one story in the Twin Poles series, and it's not finished yet. There will be others, so I'm sending Darqstar a main page so she won't have to set one up later. Oh, one more thing-- I'm trying an experiment in this story. The phonetics to indicate an accent aren't there. Rogue and Gambit and Sam all have the same speech patterns they ever did, but I'm not trying to phonetically spell their accents (if I don't phonetically spell Joseph's accent, and how I would do that is beyond me, why should I spell out Rogue and Gambit?) Let me know what you think of it.
