DISCLAIMER: Marvel Comics owns the Marvel Universe
and most of the characters in this story. We merely borrowed them; please don't sue us,
we're both poor. Cascade will fight to the death to protect her Due South merchandise and
Alicia will only give you Canadian dollars. Considering the exchange rate, it's not worth
it. Dana Hawkes and her family belong to Cascade, although Alicia reserves the right to
think of herself as their crazy aunt. Gina Bell belongs to Alicia, as do any incidental
Askani or strange entities roaming the timestream--trust me on this, Cascade doesn't know
diddly-squat about the timestream or the Askani. Please do not use any original characters
without permission. Grudging thanks to Brooke and Lynxie, who pestered--er, REQUESTED this
story every day on IRC. Brooke: Alicia's still got the axe and the Broom of Doom, so
Cascade suggests running. Fan mail, comments, questions and life-size Cable dolls can be
sent to Alicia Cascade will also be delighted to accept mail, as well as gift certificates
to the Mountie Addiction Recovery Clinic.
Epinikion By
Alicia McKenzie and Cascade
In Cascade and Alicia's Own Words:
They're baaack--and this time, they're working together! Yes, those of you who know us should be afraid, very afraid--Cascade and Alicia McKenzie are finally teaming up. TWO times the Cable. TWO times the Cannonball. TWO times the plot-shattering 'Sudden Inspiration (tm)'. FOUR times the length. (Alicia shudders in horror at the thought.)
This story fits into what the authors' dear friend Lynxie has called the 'Danaverse'--stories that involve the original character Dana Hawkes in major or minor roles. So far, the list, in chronological order, is: 'A Laying On Of Hands' by Cascade (Dana's first appearance); 'Dreamweaver', by Alicia (mostly a Cable story, but with a surprise sequel-subplot to ALOOH); and True Believers, also by Alicia (a leading candidate for Angst-Fest of the Year). The authors recommend reading at least some of that so you're not completely confused. Heck, we WROTE it and we get confused. (Especially Cascade.) 'Epinikion' is set 4-5 years after 'True Believers', and the authors would like to warn you that there are several stories forthcoming to fill in that gap. So the authors must walk a fine line between doing the future-setting justice and giving away too much. Either way, this story's 'Huh?' Quotient is liable to be up there, folks. Apologies in advance, but this story was one that had to be written. :)
