Joseph sat in his room, where he had been alot of the time for the past few weeks, brooding. He had hated the fact that Rogue and Gambit were getting married, having a child. Just the thought of them together made him angry.~He betrayed the X-Men and she still loves him? I don't understand it at all.~ Just then someone lightly rapped on the door, almost shyly.
"Can I help you? " , he said to the door in a cold tone.
"Joseph, can Ah come in?" , Rogue's voice came from behind the door.
"Don't you think Gambit would be jealous? This is another man's room after all.", he retorted.
"There is no need for y'all's rudeness. Ah didn't do a thing to ya.", she said walking in,uninvited.
"What do you need, Rogue?"
"First of all, Ah told y'all ta call me Rebecca. Second we need to talk." , she said seating herself on his bed.
"What do we need to talk about, Rebecca?", he said turning away from her.
"Ah want to know what is wrong with you. Ah wanna know why you've been up here all the time and not around the rest of the team..but, Ah think Ah already know the answer..."
" You think I am jealous? You are correct. You think that I am stupid for being angry that you and Gambit are together and not me and you? You are correct. Is that what you wanted to hear?" " Joseph, " , She began taking his hand in hers," Hon, Ah'm sorry that me and Rem bien' together is making you unhappy. Ah have loved, and still do love, Remy for a very long time. We have been through thick and thin. When it came to mah powers..he didn't try to control them, he didn't blow me off because of them. He accepted me. "
He looked down at her hand holding his. He loved her so much. Her flowing Auburn hair , Emerald green eyes that could brighten anyone's day...but he was only looking at the physical attributes. What about the fact that she trusted him when no one else did? What about her kindness and generosity? Was he just in love with her looks? ~ Such beauty.~ he thought looking at her. ~ I love everything about Rogue and she knows that. But, I cannot stand to stay here another moment. Knowing that Gambit will have her and I will not.~ " Joseph, hon , you okay?"
" I must leave, Rogue. I hope you understand. I cannot stand seeing you and Gambit together. I have loved you from the first time I laid eyes on you and I can't stand the very thought of anyone with you." Rogue looked at him curiously, as if she was a child. Then she nodded, accepting his response. She knew there was nothing she could do to change his mind and there was nothing left for them to say. She stood up and turned to him. He looked up at her.
" Goodbye, Rogue."
" Goodbye, Joseph." , she bent over and lightly kissed him on the forehead. " Just remember, there is always a place for you in the X-Men if you ever get lost and can't find your way back to the light. An' shugah, Ah do love you." She left the room tears welling up in her eyes. ~ Love always hurts someone, shugah. Love always hurts someone. ~ She kept telling herself, ~ Love always hurts someone.~
