The Jeep layed in the ditch, smoking. There was a small disturbance among the wreckage as Remy, Bobby and Hank crawled from the Jeep.
"Not something I wan' ta do everyday, neh?", Remy moaned as he stood up.
"How far are we from home? I don't feel like walking....", Bobby complained." Where's Scott? He could get Jean's attention, and then that would work...."
"Where is ol' fearless?" , Hank glanced around not noticing him. The others had escaped already and had not noticed the missing figure either.
"Where's Cyke?!", Logan said hopping up from the ground and heading to the wreckage..he found a bloodied, unconsious Scott Summers. "Holy...Gambit, Hank...get yer butts down here, NOW!"
They sensed the alarm in Logan's voice and got there within seconds. The shock only lasted seconds, their first concern was getting him out of the jeep. After an half an hour of struggle, they released his body from the wreckage and moved him up to the road. Hank went to check his diagnostics.
"How is he, Henri?", Remy kneeled next to him.
"Not good...he needs major medical attention now! His pulse is weakening."
Without another word Remy lept up and began running back towards the town, in search of help.
Scott heard the voices around him, but they grew fuzzier and fuzzier. His vision was shot and he couldn't move.~Gotta...get..Jean..~, he thought, but it hurt to do even that. He felt Hank's hand come down on his neck, feeling for a pulse yet again."H-han.", he tried to speak.
"Don't try to talk, Scott, you need your energy."
Hank could see an expression of 'What in God's name happened?!" contorting Scott's scraped up face.
"We got in a car wreck. The jeep flipped twice, I think that you had a seat on the 'bad side'.You've suffered severe injuries, but you're going to be fine."
Hank already knew that the likelyhood of Scott making it was very slim, but he had to try and comfort him. He fell silent and waited for Remy to return.
Remy ran across the grassy field towards the diminuitive house.~Gotta be someone dere...de lights are on.~ He thought running rapidly. He finally reached it and heard a T.V. blaring inside the house. He banged on the door, and the T.V. fell silent.
"Whaddya want?!", he heard a harsh female voice come from behind the door.
"My frien's....we got in a wreck...we need help.", He said breathing heavily.
The woman opened the door. She looked about in her mid-forties. She was wearing a housecoat and rollers, and sporting a .9 mm.
"C'n ya call emergency?", he begged her.
"C'mon in...I can call them then we'll drive back to the place.", she offered, noticing that he was worn out, at the very least.
The woman finished putting in the call to emergency and sped back to the scene at an alarming rate. Remy explained what had happened on the way there.
Scott's breathing began to slow and it was getting darker. The pain in his side and chest had grown and he began to realize what was happening. He was dying. He reached out with his heart and mind, to deliver a final message to Jean before his death. The words were simple, but meant everything in the world to their relationship, their life.~ I...love you, Jean....~ and with that thought, he was gone. He went easily, but painfully. The group overheard Hank mutter the words, "Time of Death 2:44."
The Station Wagon screeched to a stop about fifteen feet from Scott's body. Remy jumped out, "I got help, mes amis!", but saw the sullen look on the faces of his teammates. He looked down. ~Too late....too damn late.~
Jean went pale and her eyes widened. " Oh...God...", she jumped up from her place on the floor and ran to the bathroom.
Rogue looked alarmed, " What's goin' on?!" she wondered aloud as she followed in suit with Ororo. They heard Jean vomiting and immeadiately became worried.
"Jean, Goddess....what's wrong?!"
"Scott...he's...", but the sobs drowned out the rest of her words.
Rogue dropped to her knees and hugged Jean, who was gasping for air....Ororo stood there confused, but Rogue knew exactly what was wrong. Scott was dead.
Heya Folks, sorry this was so late in coming, I'll have more up soon. Feedback demanded!!! ~Jeri
