This is the first fanfiction I ever wrote. I know it's short, but I hope people like it anyway. Thank-you Darqstar for helping me. I never could have done this without you. Thank-you too, Bryan, for just for being you.

X-S (Or Growing Up X)
When The Night Comes
By Bethany

It was evening. Walking into the dormitory room she shared with Sikudhani, Eva dropped her books on her bed. "I have done just about all the studying I care to do today," she announced dramatically. "I might even say I have done all the studying I care to do in one lifetime."

Siku looked up from her laptop computer. "Well, that was quite a statement. Tough night?"

Eva nodded. "I am sooo tired of European history I could just...scream. I don't know if I'll ace the test tomorrow, but I'd better at least get a passing grade." She walked into the bathroom and started brushing her hair, keeping the door open. "Have you been studying all night, too?"

Siku didn't taking her eyes off the computer screen as she spoke, "I took a break and got a soda around eight."

"Sounds like you could use a break, now," Eva commented. "A bunch of us were going to go get some pizza, do you want to tag along?"

Siku shook her head. "No. I'm fine."

"Are you sure? All work and no play makes Dhani a dull girl." Eva smiled, hoping to lure her away from the computer.

"No, really. I'm kind of in the middle of something." Siku flicked her hand, indicating the computer, then started typing again.

Eva sighed. She liked Sikudhani, she was a friendly person and she had really helped her out with a couple of classes Eva had trouble with. But it bothered Eva that she stayed in her room so much. Sure, she went out sometimes with Eva and their friends, but rarely did she go anywhere after dinner. The girl studied constantly. If she didn't have her nose in one of her textbooks, she was on the computer, writing a paper or surfing the internet for information. Eva believed in a good education, but there were limits. College wasn't just about studying, it was about making friends and having fun. Sometimes Eva worried that Siku never had any fun.

"It might do you good to get out once in awhile," Eva said, giving it another try. "You need a social life."

"I have a social life," Siku said, looking up at her.

"Mostly on weekends," Eva reminded her. "During the week, it's just study, study, study for you."

"Well, if I do my studying during the week, then I don't have to worry about it as much on weekends," Siku said. "I just don't like to go out at night during the week."

Eva shook her head, giving up. Sikudhani was Sikudhani and nothing was going to change her. Even her boyfriend Bryan went to another college, too far away for her to see him during the week. There were times when Eva wondered if Siku had arranged it that way on purpose so she wouldn't have to worry about Bryan interfering with her study time. "All right, Dhani, have it your way." She put down the brush and walked out of the bathroom, grabbing her jacket. "But you're going to miss out on a good time."

"I'll survive," Siku said. "Go on, Eva. Have a good time."

"I will." Eva left the room, still feeling sorry for Siku. Chances are when she returned from the pizza place, Siku would still be on the computer. Poor kid. Her father raised her to be real smart, but he didn't teach her how to have fun, she thought to herself.

Siku watched as Eva shut the door to the room before turning her attention back to the computer. "Now, where was I?" she murmured, looking at the screen.

BryanD98: Is everything okay?

XSikudhani: Everything is fine. Eva just came in to drop off her books. She's going out.

BryanD98: She's always going out, isn't she?

XSikudhani: Yes. She's going for pizza with the gang. She asked me if I wanted to tag along.

BryanD98: Do you want to? I understand if you do.

XSikudhani: No, it's okay. :-) I'd rather stay here with you.

BryanD98: {:-) I'm glad. I'd rather be with you too.

XSikudhani: Yeah. Since we can't see each other every day, this is the next best thing.
